Predict ‘Back to School’ shopping?

Oracle Retail’s Mike Webster has pointed out the focus on data and science in preparing retail operations for the ‘back to school’ rush of shoppers.

Deloitte are expecting 87% of parents in the USA to spend $488 for back to school items this year, $54 up on last year.

Webster argues that retailers need to go back to the foundations of business analysis where they run the right algorithms against massive datasets to enable them to get back to school inventory more accurate. The winners, Webster notes will be those who focus on the basic operations of a business which are key to the customer experience. The supply chain operations within a retailer are key to building loyalty and trust with customers and creating a favourable impression.
