In recent years Oracle have ventured further into the retail technology market, purchasing Micros for $5.3 billion about a year and a half ago.
A recent interview with Mike Webster, Oracle’s senior VP and head of its retail and hospitality business revealed some interesting details regarding Oracle Retail.
Webster notes that in addition to their existing product range, Oracle sell all of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) software required by retailers but also products relating to merchandising, retail planning, supply chair, commerce, point of sale and analytics specific to retail.
Webster also discussed the prospects of cloud software, as it has expanded Oracle’s customer database to include mid-market retailers and not just the world’s biggest retailers.
He also commented on the ongoing importance of physical stores which have become interlinked with online stores to enable customers to shop in a variety of ways.
